Phase 1 Collect the Data
We figure out your objectives, where you feel the problem areas are and estimate the length of engagement. We then set you up with premium synthetic monitoring and run isolation tests on key pages - if you have any existing analytics in place that you can give us access to, all the better.
Phase 2 Run the Audit
Once we have collected enough data it’s time to analyse the results. We look at key UX metrics that bring business value, optimization of resources, the rendering pipeline, third party impact, page interactivity, framework and network restrictions, device capability, design considerations and more.
Phase 3 Prioritize and Optimize
Next is to document and prioritize the findings in a report that gives actionable items for the development team to investigate and implement. If required we will organize a remote session with the dev team and key stakeholders to review the report and advise on implementation.
Phase 4 Validate and Release
Implementing the recommendations may take some time depending on your resources, QA process and release cycle but we can assist you in validating the changes if needed on a preproduction environment as part of an extended engagement*. Its best practice to release one thematic performance incentive at a time so the improvements can be independently monitored in production.
Phase 1 Requirements Spec
This time is used to become familiar with your application setup and infrastructure to determine the best tooling to put in place - the approach will differ depending on the size of the project and the need for continuous integration. We will review your analytics to understand user behaviour and the key flows of the site for simulation.
Phase 2 Simulation Deep Dive
You might want to test a trouble area in isolation or validate the general application pre-release – we script the user scenarios as required. We can recommend APM and infrastructure monitoring if you do not already have a solution in place.
Phase 3 Execution
Using the defined user simulations, we run a series of test executions including baseline, load, stress and soak tests (depending on the engagement*) at the required concurrent user volume and configuration. This will allow us to gather data on key performance indicators, capacity levels, build degradation, transaction response times and backend bottlenecks.
Phase 4 Analysis and Report
As the tests are performed, a post analysis of capacity, throughput, error rate and other metrics are reported on. These are compared to results collected from monitoring the application code and infrastructure. A detailed report of findings and recommendations are then provided for the development team to review.
